Plantain Green. Broadleaf plantain has green oval to egg-shaped leaves that grow in a rosette. Like bananas they are originally from Southeast Asia but theyre grown all over the world today.
Plantain is about twice the length of a banana approximately 12 inches long and about 2 inches on its widest part. It is a medicinal plant that is used for colds insect bites bronchitis asthma etc and other uses. The stamens of the flowers of the ribwort lesser plantain plantago lanceolata can see during spring and summer in most of the prairies of europe.
One of my favorite ways to make broadleaf plantain is to fry it up with green onions.
Plantains are also starchier and lower in sugar than bananas. They are cheap and easy to make. In most of the Caribbean and Latin America twice fried green plantains called Tostones or Patacones depending on which Latin American country youre from are commonly eaten as an appetizer or a side dish with any meal. There are many variations of the Plantain but the best one for eating is the Broadleaf.
